What is Reflexology?Reflexology is an ancient, holistic healing method involving the use of pressure and massage on reflex points found on the feet and on the hands. It is very effective in cases of stress, tension and exhaustion. Like many other complimentary medicine techniques, reflexology is used both in treating disease and as a preventive measure promoting good health. Vital energy or life force, known as Chi in Chinese, Ki in Japanese or Prana in Sanskrit, flows between the body organs. Freely flowing energy promotes good physical and mental health. When the energy is blocked, the corresponding parts of the body are affected. The objective of a reflexology treatment is to unblock and free the passage of energy throughout the body. People of all ages can benefit from Reflexology treatments and it is of specific value in stress management and the treatment of muscular pain, as well as digestive and respiratory problems. Stress and tension are responsible for the lowering of the efficiency of the immune system and health experts estimate that 75% of disease is related to stress. Reflexology can relieve many conditions such as: - stress, nervous tension, fatigue, insomnia - allergies, asthma, skin disorders - muscular aches and pains, back pain, sciatica - headache, migraine, sinusitis - PMS, menopause symptoms - colds, flu, poor immune system - IBS and other digestive problems - infertility, pregnancy discomforts - poor circulation
How does Reflexology work?Reflex areas on the hand and foot act as small 'mirrors' of the body's various organs and systems. By using specific pressure techniques, energy blockages can be detected through the presence of minute granular areas, clinically referred to as crystal deposits. These occur in the part of the foot or hand that corresponds to the part of the body that is out of balance. The Reflexologist's pressure and massage techniques are designed to disperse energy blocks, break down crystalline structure and encourage the body to heal itself.
What does a Reflexology Session Involve? At your first treatment there will be a preliminary chat about your medical history and what you would like to achieve from Reflexology. Work will then begin on your feet, or hands if necessary, noting problem areas. Usually a treatment session lasts for about one hour. The total number of sessions, and the frequency, will depend on the body's individual requirements and we will discuss a recommended treatment plan, based on problem areas highlighted.
